Which class should I take?
Alberta Dancesport wants to make your dance experience as pleasurable as possible! All courses vary slightly from session to session with different patterns and variations in each, so they are never exactly the same. This is to allow you to repeat courses as often as desired and allow you to progress at your own pace.
Salsa Sampler (Beginner) - 4-Weeks
This is the starting point for students attending a Salsa dance class for the first time. It's the perfect course to get started dancing Salsa! If you have never taken a course with Alberta Dancesport and are not sure if this is for you, then you are welcome to try the first class – before you buy. Register for these courses to learn the mechanics of basic steps and lead/follow skills. You may review or repeat the introductory courses as often as you wish until you know it confidently. Consider spending one to two full years in each of the introductory courses. Spending more time at this level will create a solid foundation of skills for you to become a stronger dancer. Just like any other skill development, your degree of success is directly proportional to the amount of time you invest developing it.
Pre-requisites: None (If you can walk, you can dance!)

Salsa/Latino Intermediate - 8-Weeks
This level is beyond the basics. At this level you are starting to think like a dancer! If you found the Introductory courses a little slow, hold on to your hat, because this level picks up the pace very quickly. In Latino Intermediate you will cover in more detail:
• Patterns, Position and Alignment
• Technique, Character and Movement
• Communication and Partnering
• Styling and Interpretation
• Music, Rhythm and Timing
You will learn the secrets of Latin hips and other styling techniques in this course. These technical secrets will strengthen your skills, making you a more talented dancer. Your lead and follow skills will improve so much that you will welcome a chance to change partners so you can test your new skills with other dancers. This level will boost your confidence in your dance abilities.
You are welcome to stay in this level for as long as you wish (two to three years is recommended – subject to the time you invest practicing what you have learned). You should obtain consent from your professional instructor before registering for the next level.

The Salsa/Latino Intermediate course is an 8-week course that covers two dances: Salsa and Merengue

Salsa Casino Rueda (Beginner/Intermediate) - 4-Weeks
When Salsa is danced in a circle it is called Casino Rueda. Rueda means ‘wheel’ and in this dance couples dance in a circle with a caller (like square dancing…but cooler) the caller will say the name of a pattern, and the dancers will all do the pattern at the same time. Rueda de Casino also features many partner switches and ladies may dance with each guy a number of times. There is no specific Salsa music for Rueda, you will notice a circle or two in different spots on the dance floor while others are dancing Salsa.
This is the starting point for students wishing to Casino Rueda. If you have never taken a course with Alberta Dancesport and are not sure if this is for you, then you are welcome to try the first class – before you buy.
Pre-requisites: Ability to dance the Salsa basic
The Salsa Casino Rueda courses are 4-week courses that cover one dance: Casino de Rueda
The cost of the course is $45/person + GST. (Or you can take this together with the Salsa Footwork course and get all 8-weeks of these two courses for $75/person + GST)

Salsa Footwork (Beginner/Intermediate) - 4-Weeks
This course is designed to expand on your basic knowledge of Salsa with some additional footwork, styling and technique. If you have never taken a course with Alberta Dancesport and are not sure if this is for you, then you are welcome to try the first class – before you buy.
Pre-requisites: Ability to dance the Salsa basic
The Salsa Footwork course is a 4-week courses that covers one dance: Salsa
The cost of the course is $45/person + GST. (Or you can take this together with the Salsa Casino Rueda course and get all 8-weeks of these two courses for $75/person + GST)

Ballroom Beginner - 8-Weeks

Salsa Level 3 (Advanced) - 8-Weeks
Salsa 3 is the perfect place for the intermediate/advanced dancer. In Salsa 3 we explore the technique of leading and following salsa and musicality. We also spend time on styling for the men and ladies, and explore the most popular and current patterns and variations for Salsa. In Salsa 3 we focus on not what you do (although, we do that as well :) but HOW you do it, and what will make you look and feel great on the dace floor.
