Alberta Dancesport’s past Competitive Ballroom Bootcamp courses have
been a huge success and we are pleased to announce that we are
offering a new session beginning on Sunday September 28th,
2008
For
the Fall 2008 Competitive Ballroom Bootcamp,
we are looking for around 15 couples to
participate in this special course. It is the perfect way to focus
on the more technical aspects of dancing and take your dancing to
the next level while having a great time!
What exactly is this course about?
Our next Competitive Ballroom Bootcamp course is a 7-week intense
training course that starts on Sunday September 28th and runs for 7
Sundays from 10:30am to 12:00pm. This course, taught by professional
instructor Eric Caty, is designed to prepare couples to compete at
the Newcomer level in both the International Standard and
International Latin categories at various local competitions.
Designed to train you from the very basics of each of the dances,
this course will provide you with a strong foundation to allow you
to develop your dancing to the maximum.
What will I learn in this course?
During this 7-week course, couples will be trained in two dances:
Waltz and Cha Cha. A newcomer level routine will taught for
each of the two dances along with technique, presentation and
styling. The training will start from the very basics of
movement in each dance and will progress quickly to the newcomer
level syllabus figures, presentation and styling required for both
routines. In addition to learning the two dances, couples will
learn how competitions are run, competition rules and regulations,
what judges look for, mental preparation for competition, and how to
look your best when dancing and performing!
How much does it cost to take this course?
The cost of this 7-week Competitive Ballroom Bootcamp Course is
$95+gst per person. This course also includes a make-up and
hair session for the ladies with Professional Instructor Kelly Caty,
competition practice trial runs and other helpful sessions to
prepare you for your very first dance competition!
Do I need to have previous dance experience to take this course?
Previous dance experience will obviously be an asset when taking
this course; however, the course will start right from the very
basics. If you have very little dance experience, you can
still take this course but it will be necessary to allocate more
time for practice outside of the regularly scheduled classes.
Private lessons would also be recommended if you would like to
accelerate your progression.
Do I need a partner to take part in this course?
YES! A partner is required to enroll in the Competitive
Ballroom Bootcamp as there will be no partner changes throughout the
7-weeks of the course. You will spend the 7-weeks dancing with
the same partner, you should be practicing between classes with your
partner, and should you choose to do so, you will have the
opportunity to dance with your partner in some of the local
competitions in Calgary and Edmonton held in November.
What if I don't have a partner?
If you do not have a partner and wish to participate in this course,
you should start actively looking for a partner immediately!
Start searching for a partner today!
If you have any friends that dance or know of any other dancers
looking for a partner, you may want to ask them to see if they are
interested in partnering with you for this course.
Look for for potential dance partners in our 6-week
courses
Another great place to find a partner is if you are enrolled in any
of our 6-week courses. If there is someone in your class that
you would be interested in dancing together with, you should talk to
them to see if they would be interested in taking the Competitive
Ballroom Bootcamp course with you.
Partner Search Nights - Sept 12 & 19th
We will be holding a partner search night during our Friday night
dance parties on September 12th and September 19th. If you are
interested in taking this course and don't have a partner, this is a
great opportunity to meet other dancers looking for a partner.
Maybe we can help match you with a partner
If you are still unable to find a partner, then maybe we can help!
We will be taking the details of individuals wishing to take the
Ballroom Bootcamp course and doing our best to pair them on a
first-come-first-served basis based on Height, Age Range, Dance
Experience, and Desire to Compete.
Email your details with a short message indicating that you wish to
enroll in the Ballroom Bootcamp to
info@albertadancesport.com
If you would like to submit your details, we will try our best to
find you a partner.
Although we will try our best to introduce you to others, we cannot
guarantee that we will be able to find you a partner.
Although we will try our best to introduce you to others, we cannot
guarantee that we will be able to find you a partner. During
these partner search nights at our Friday night dances, it will be
up to you to get to know the other dancers to see if a potential
match for a dance partnership is there. We encourage everyone
to come out as this is one of the best opportunities available for
finding a dance partner.
WE NEED MEN!
If you are a male dancer and want the challenge of a dancesport
competition, WE NEED YOU! During the last session of this
course, there was a huge shortage of men and we are hoping that more
of you will be willing to come out and take on the challenge of a
dance competition!
Can you help match me
with a partner?

How do I sign up for the partner search nights and how do they work?
Two partner search nights will be held on September 12th and
September 19th.
Although it is not necessary to confirm, it will help us organize
things more effectively if you could send an email to
info@albertadancesport.com to
confirm that you will be attending the partner search night.
Those attending should show up on Friday September 12th and/or
September 19th at around 8:30pm. We will provide you with a
name tag to identify to the others that you are here for the partner
search night and we will introduce you to the others.
Throughout the rest of the evening, you should try to get to know
and dance with as many partners as you can.
If you are unable to find a partner, please don't be discouraged!
Finding a dance partner is a complex process that requires matching
of not only interest in dance but also experience levels, height,
age group, personality, and personal expectations. There is a
partner for you out there and you just need to keep looking!
Great dance partnerships are not made overnight! You should
also keep in mind that this dance partnership is not marriage and
only needs to last 7 weeks plus the competition. Even if your
potential partner is not the "perfect" match for you, it is worth
considering the benefit of being able to advance your dancing!
After providing you with a name tag and introducing you to the
others, we leave the rest to you! If you feel that a potential
partnership exists, it will be up to you to get to know your
potential partner, try dancing with them and ultimately exchange
contact information so that you can register in the course together.
We will be available throughout the evening to answer any questions
that you may have.
I'm not sure if I want to compete. Can I still take the course?
Absolutely! Although our goal is to encourage as many of you
as possible to participate in a dancesport competition, we
understand that the thought of performing in front of an audience
instills fear in many people. In this course, we hope to
provide you with a boost in your confidence levels so that you will
not only feel comfortable dancing in a competition but you will have
a great time!
You will not be required to compete if you choose not to and you
have until the 5th week of this course to decide before the
registration deadline. In our first Competitive Ballroom
Bootcamp course, just over half of the couples decided to register
for the competition.
Who will be teaching this course?
The Competitive Ballroom Bootcamp will be taught by professional
instructor Eric Caty.
Eric was a former Open North American Ten Dance Champion and has
traveled the world competing at some of the world’s most prestigious
dance events including the Ohio Star Ball and the Blackpool Dance
Festival in England, the
largest dance competition in the world. Eric coaches many of Alberta's top amateur and professional
competitive couples and has taught dancers of all levels from
beginners to professionals. His positive teaching style brings
out the best in all of his students.
We are very pleased to be able to offer this caliber of dance
instruction at Alberta Dancesport.
